North Central Stops Eureka, 1-0
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Playing for the first time in seven days, the Eureka College men’s soccer team came up short in a 1-0 loss to North Central, Saturday afternoon at the Sal Vacarro Tournament hosted by the Cardinals. Micah Melendrez delivered the game’s only goal in the 40th minute.
The strike from Melendrez was unassisted, coming on a shot from 20 yards away.
Eureka was outshot 27-6 during the contest. Only a shot from freshman Tony Terdina (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore H.S.) in the 30th minute found its way to North Central goalkeeper Phillip Klipp, but Klipp made the save to preserve North Central’s lead. Klipp played the full 90 minutes to earn the shutout.
Freshman Jay Linsley (Peoria, Ill./Limestone H.S.) made 11 stops in the match but took the loss. Eight of Eureka’s 11 starters played the full 90 minutes.
Eureka will conclude its two-match trip to the Chicago suburbs tomorrow with a 1 p.m. match against Cornell in Naperville.
