Brian O'Malley Named SLIAC Player of the Week
EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka College senior forward Brian O’Malley (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) has been named the SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced late Monday night. O’Malley scored three goals and added three assists in Eureka’s two matches last week.
In Eureka’s 9-0 rout of Knox last Wednesday, O’Malley netted the game-winning goal just 15:51 into the match, jump starting his two-goal, three-assist performance in just 48 minutes of play. He assisted on first half strikes from Cody Roeder (Peoria, Ill./Woodruff H.S.) and Derek Johnson (Leland, Ill./Leland H.S.), scored on a breakaway 2:29 into the second half and recorded his final assist on a goal from Matt Sullinger (Springfield, Ill./Springfield H.S.) less than a minute later.
O’Malley followed his performance against Knox by scoring Eureka’s only goal in a 4-1 loss to Coe on Saturday. His 53rd minute tally gave him a total of eight goals and six assists through the season’s first five matches. His 24 career goals are an all-time Eureka record.
The Red Devils will return to action this Saturday when they play tournament host North Central at the Sal Vaccaro Tournament in Naperville, Ill. at 5:30 p.m.
