Spalding Stops Men's Soccer, 8-1
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Eureka junior Serkan Bakirdan (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.) found the back of the net for the second consecutive game, but new SLIAC member Spalding proved too much in an 8-1 win over the Red Devils, Saturday afternoon in Louisville, Ky.
Bakirdan’s goal was his 14th of the season, trailing only senior Brian O’Malley (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) for the team lead. Six different Red Devils put a shot on goal, but Spalding goalkeeper Aaron Harkins kept five of the six shots on target out of the net.
Spalding held a 28-8 advantage in shots. Senior Geoff Stenger led the Golden Eagles with a pair of goals in the win.
Eureka will return to action on Tuesday when it hosts its annual Senior Day against Greenville at 3 p.m.
