Trio of Red Devils Spark Win at MacMurray

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Eureka College senior Brian O’Malley (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) and junior Serkan Bakirdan (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.) scored three goals each and freshman Tony Terdina (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore H.S.) added three assists, leading the men’s soccer team to a 6-1 victory over MacMurray, Tuesday afternoon.

O’Malley opened the scoring with his 15th goal of the season on Terdina’s first assist.  Bakirdan added tallies later in the half to give the Red Devils (3-7-0, 1-1-0 SLIAC) a 3-0 halftime lead.

Chris Bledsoe put the Highlanders (0-9-0, 0-2-0 SLIAC) on the board with an assist from Darius Alvarado to trim MacMurray’s deficit to 3-1, but Bakirdan and O’Malley combined to score three more times to give the Red Devils a comfortable lead.

Junior midfielder David Crady (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora H.S.) assisted on Bakirdan’s third goal.  O’Malley and Bakirdan each provided an assist in addition to their hat tricks.

The win snaps a five-match losing streak for the Red Devils and is their first league win since a 3-0 win on Sept, 30, 2008 at MacMurray.

Eureka returns to Traister Field this Saturday at 3 p.m. to host Principia.  The Panthers are 6-0-0 on the year and are ranked #8 in Division III according to a poll from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
