Cody Halstead Named SLIAC Player of the Week
EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka College junior forward Cody Halstead (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods H.S./Illinois Central) has been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office late Tuesday night. Halstead scored four goals and added an assist in three matches last week.
The junior college transfer from Illinois Central scored twice in his Eureka debut, a 4-1 victory at Knox last Wednesday. He also recorded his first assist as a Red Devil when he provided the helper on an insurance goal from senior midfielder David Crady (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora H.S.) with just 82 seconds remaining in the match. The win marked Eureka’s first season-opening win in school history.
In Sunday’s match against Hanover at Traister Field, Halstead provided strikes for the Red Devils in the 7th minute and again in the 17th minute. He took a total of four shots in the match.
Halstead and the Red Devils will return to the pitch this Sunday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa against Coe. The Red Devils and Kohawks will kickoff at 3 p.m.
