Fontbonne Tops Men's Soccer, 5-0
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Fontbonne sophomore midfielder Taylor Pratte netted the match-winner and Josh Schulz added a pair of goals in the second half, leading the Griffins to a 5-0 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over the Eureka College men’s soccer team, Saturday night in Clayton, Mo.
Pratte directed corner kick service from Schulz past Eureka sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Mumm (Monticello, Ill./Monticello H.S.) to break a scoreless tie at the 15:24 mark of the first half. The Griffins were able to stretch their lead to 2-0 in the final 10 minutes of the half when Schulz found Zach Meyer for a goal and a 2-0 lead in the 36th minute.
Schulz put the match out of reach when he scored twice in a span of 12-minutes, 9-seconds early in the second half.
Eureka senior forward Cody Halstead (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods H.S./Illinois Central) attempted the Red Devils’ only shot for the match. Mumm made 10 saves. The match marked the SLIAC opener for the Red Devils, who dropped to 1-4-0 all-time in SLIAC openers.
The Red Devils will return to action Wednesday when non-conference foe Illinois College visits Traister Field at 4 p.m.
