Red Devils Drop SLIAC Match at Webster, 5-0

Box Score

FENTON, Mo. – Webster grabbed an early lead and tacked on four insurance goals in the second half to notch a 5-0 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over the Eureka College men’s soccer team, Sunday afternoon at Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo.

Clint Carder netted the match-winner for the Gorloks (4-5-1, 2-0-0 SLIAC) just 3:10 into the match, an unassisted strike for a 1-0 lead.  Webster went on to take 12 shots in the first half, but only three made their way to Eureka sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Mumm (Monticello, Ill./Monticello H.S.).  The Red Devils (2-7-0, 0-2-0 SLIAC) kept their deficit at 1-0 for the remainder of the first half.

The hosts were able to break the match open early in the second half, taking a 2-0 lead on the first goal of the season from Shea Vogt in the 54th minute.  Three minutes later, Bryan Enger scored his first of two goals during the afternoon for a 3-0 advantage.

Cody Halstead (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods H.S./Illinois Central), Evan Kingery (Heyworth, Ill./Heyworth H.S.) and Kyle Oyer (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S.) attempted shots for the Red Devils.  Mumm, who was making his sixth start of the season, made seven saves in 90 minutes in goal.

Eureka will return home Saturday to host Principia in a SLIAC match at Traister Field.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
