Red Devils Drop SLIAC Match at Webster, 5-0
FENTON, Mo. – Webster grabbed an early lead and tacked on four insurance goals in the second half to notch a 5-0 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over the Eureka College men’s soccer team, Sunday afternoon at Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo.
Clint Carder netted the match-winner for the Gorloks (4-5-1, 2-0-0 SLIAC) just 3:10 into the match, an unassisted strike for a 1-0 lead. Webster went on to take 12 shots in the first half, but only three made their way to Eureka sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Mumm (Monticello, Ill./Monticello H.S.). The Red Devils (2-7-0, 0-2-0 SLIAC) kept their deficit at 1-0 for the remainder of the first half.
The hosts were able to break the match open early in the second half, taking a 2-0 lead on the first goal of the season from Shea Vogt in the 54th minute. Three minutes later, Bryan Enger scored his first of two goals during the afternoon for a 3-0 advantage.
