Boxscore

EUREKA — Eureka closed the regular season with a 9-0 non-conference loss to Illinois Wesleyan University at home Tuesday.

Patrick Howard (Peoria, Ill./HS) of Eureka (1-8) and Paul Oehrlein of the Titans (6-13) needed two
tie-breakers to settle things in their No. 2 singles match.  Howard took the first set 7-6 by winning the
tie-breaker 8-6.  Oehrlein rebounded to take the second set 6-1, then took the super tie-breaker as well,
10-3.  The loss snapped a three-match winning streak for Howard in singles play.

The closest scores in other matches came in singles at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots.  Aaron Rapp (Normal, Ill./West) slipped for 4-4 in the top singles position for the season with a (6-3, 6-3) defeat to Dan Chang of IWU.  Meanwhile, the Titans' third singles player, Ryan Goergen, held on to a (6-2, 6-3) victory over the Red Devils' Gordon Barkley (Peoria Heights, Ill./HS).

Next for Eureka is the SLIAC Tennis Championship at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis.  The tournament begins Friday, April 25 with men's first round matches starting at Noon.  The sixth seed, Eureka will face off with third seeded Principia.  The Red Devils dropped a 7-2 decision to the Panthers in the squads' regular season match on April 5.
