Rapp, Howard post singles wins in home opening match

Results

EUREKA — The EC men's tennis team fell 7-2 to Principia College in the first home match of the 2008 season.  Eureka's two points came from its top two players in singles play.

The best match of the day was in No. 1 singles between Principia's Graham Wightman and the Red Devils' Aaron Rapp (Normal, Ill./West).  Rapp evenually rebounded from losing the opening set to take the marathon match (1-6, 6-4, 6-3).

Patrick Howard (Peoria, Ill./HS), who also avenged a close 8-6 loss in doubles to the team of Wightman/Batchelor, had an easier go of it in his No. 2 singles match up with Dan Batchelor of Principia.  Howard moved to 3-2 in singles on the season with a (6-4, 6-3) triumph.  Unfortunately for EC, Principia won the other singles matches in straight sets to clinch the match.

The Red Devils' next match is slated for Tuesday, April 8 at Dominican University starting at 3:30 pm.
