Eureka falls at home to Prairie Fire
EUREKA — The Red Devils dropped a non-conference men's tennis match to Knox College in Eureka Monday afternoon by the count of 8-1.
The match of the day was in the first doubles slot between Eureka's Aaron Rapp (Normal, Ill./West) and Patrick Howard (Peoria, Ill./HS) and Knox's Jared Katchen and Lance Hoffman. The back-and-forth affair eventually needed a tie-breaker to settle it, and even that did little to separate the two teams. In the end, however, it was Katchen and Hoffman prevailing 7-5 in the tie-breaker and 9-8 overall.
Howard earned the Red Devils (1-5) a point in the No. 2 singles spot by default due to an injury to Hoffman. Rapp got off to a 4-1 lead versus Katchen in his No. 1 singles match up, but finished on the short end of a
Knox (7-8) won the other six matches as well. Elby Cox (Morton, Ill./HS) played his opponent to the closest score (6-3, 6-2) at No. 6 singles.
