Emily Forbes earns SLIAC Hitter of the Week accolades

EUREKA — Eureka College senior Emily Forbes (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) was chosen for Hitter of the Week honors by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the week of March 31 - April 6.  This is the fourth player of the week award for Eureka in the last three weeks.

Forbes, who earned "Pitcher of the Week" honors last year and was an Honorable Mention All-SLIAC volleyball player this past season, helped the Red Devils (10-8, 3-1 SLIAC) to a 3-1 record last week with a .600 batting average, triple, nine runs scored, four runs batted in, three walks, four sacrifices and eight stolen bases.  During the week, she reached base safely in eight consecutive plate appearances and scored a run each time.

Having played 111 games in her EC career, Forbes set career-highs with four runs scored and five stolen bases in Eureka's 14-3 win over Lincoln Christian.  She tied her career-high with three hits in four at bats in game two versus LCC, and also recorded her first ever four-RBI game.  Forbes later in the week accounted for Eureka's only run in a 3-1 loss to Westminster as she hit a triple and scored on an errant throw to the infield.

For the season, Forbes leads the team with 20 runs scored, 14 stolen bases and six sacrifices, starting all 18 games at shortstop.  She has a .347 batting average with eight walks and just seven strikeouts.  The Red Devils are 9-4 in the 13 games in which she has scored a run.

Eureka is next scheduled to play at Webster University Thursday, April 10 at 4:00 pm.
