Emily Forbes garners CoSIDA Academic All-District accolades

Recent Eureka College graduate Emily Forbes (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) has been to the ESPN The Magazine Softball Academic All-District 5 Third Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Forbes completed her illustrious Eureka College career this spring by leading the Red Devils softball team (15-16, 6-8 SLIAC) with 32 runs scored and 18 stolen bases.  She had a brilliant season defensively as well, committing only six errors while starting all 31 games at shortstop.  Forbes was a key factor in two of the team's records set this season.  Eureka recorded school records with a fielding percentage of .954 and a stolen base percentage of 89.6 as a team.  Forbes' 18 stolen bases in 19 attempts (94.7%) represented the fourth highest success rate and the fifth most steals for a season in EC history.  She batted .307 this season with a .419 on base percentage, 12 RBI and 16 walks against 15 strikeouts.

Forbes is also a three-time Academic All-Conference recipient and two-time NFCA Scholar Athlete.  Earlier this year, she earned the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, the highest honor given by the Eureka athletic department.  She was also a four-year standout on the EC volleyball team, earning MVP and all-conference recognition this past season.  Forbes is the second Eureka softball player in three years to be named Academic All-District following Molly Hardesty, who made the Second Team in 2006.

The country is divided into eight districts and schools are separated into university and college divisions. The District 5 college divicion includes NAIA and NCAA Division II and III schools from Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin.  To be eligible for the award, athletes must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, have completed at least one year at their current institution and have outstanding credentials in athletic competition.  CoSIDA members from the district schools make up the voting panel.
