Kelsey Brandt earns SLIAC Pitcher of the Week accolades

Red Devils claimed half of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's six Athlete of the Week Awards for the week of March 16-22.  Included among them was Kelsey Brandt (Morton, Ill./HS), who won the honor for softball.

Brandt was named SLIAC Pitcher of the Week for the third time in her career.  The junior lefthander pitched a total of 17.2 innings last week, amassing 10 strikeouts, while allowing just 11 hits and two earned runs.  Not only did she handcuff the three different ball clubs to a combined .164 batting average, but she also showcased pinpoint control, issuing only two walks and firing no wild pitches.

Brandt recorded her first complete game of the season against Monmouth College on March 19.  She pitched around three defensive errors, giving up just three hits and one walk in Eureka's 2-0 loss.  She then improved on that performance against Rockford College two days later, tossing a three-hit gem as the Red Devils (2-10) won 8-0.  Brandt allowed just two hits out of the infield en route to her fourth career shutout.  She also tied her career-high with six strikeouts.  Later that day, she pitched 2.2 scoreless innings to keep EC within one run as she was called on in a relief role in Eureka's 6-5 loss in game two.  For the season, Brandt leads the team with a 3.13 ERA and .266 opposing batting average.  She has tossed 22.1 innings on the season without a wild pitch.
