Eureka Softball Drops Pair at Texas-Dallas
RICHARDSON, Texas -- The Eureka softball team opened the 2010 season Tuesday afternoon, dropping a pair of games to Texas-Dallas at the UTD Softball Field in Richardson, Texas. The Comets claimed an 11-2 victory in the opener before recording an 11-3 triumph in the nightcap.
Eureka (0-2) senior Cathy Kalnicky (Bolingbrook, Ill./Plainfield H.S.) recorded Eureka's only hit of the contest. The Red Devils pushed a pair of unearned runs across in the top of the third inning after falling behind 4-0. The Comets (9-3) answered with seven more runs to end the game early.
The Red Devils fell behind 11-0 in game two before registering some offense late. Kalnicky homered to center field for Eureka's first RBI of the season in the top of the fourth inning. Sophomore outfielder Heather Skelton (Harvard, Ill./Alden-Hebron H.S.) added a two-run double in the top of the fifth inning after Sarah Jesse (Mackinaw, Ill./Bloomington H.S./Illinois Central) walked and Jill Doty (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S./Illinois Central) singled with one out in the inning.
Eureka will continue its six-game spring break road trip to the Lone Star State on Wednesday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against LeTourneau in Longview, Texas.
