Lauren Kao Named SLIAC Player of the Week
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Eureka College freshman outfielder Lauren Kao (Normal, Ill./Normal Community H.S.) has been chosen as the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Hitter of the Week, the league announced late Monday night. The award marks the second consecutive week a Eureka player has earned Player of the Week honors.
Kao fell a single short of the cycle in Eureka’s 11-10 loss to Illinois College last Tuesday. She smacked her second career home run and drove in five runs in the game. She followed that performance with a 4-for-5 showing in Eureka’s SLIAC doubleheader against Webster. Kao recorded a double and a triple in each of the games against the Gorloks and added a stolen base in game two.
The Eureka leadoff hitter currently leads the SLIAC with eight doubles, five triples and 81 plate appearances. She ranks third in slugging percentage at .676 and seventh in hits with 26.
Eureka (7-15, 5-3 SLIAC) will continue its push for a spot in the SLIAC Tournament when the Red Devils return to the diamond Wednesday afternoon for a doubleheader at Greenville at 3 p.m.
