Red Devils Net Saturday Split
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Eureka College sophomore pitcher Sarah Jesse (Mackinaw, Ill./Bloomington H.S.) tossed a four-hit shutout for her first career victory, helping Eureka to a 3-0 victory over MacMurray, Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Ill. The Red Devils dropped a 4-1 decision to Fontbonne earlier in the day.
Jesse struck out two in the win. Senior catcher Cathy Kalnicky (Bolingbrook, Ill./Plainfield H.S.) extended her own school record with her 12th career home run in the fifth inning. Freshman outfielder Lauren Kao (Normal, Ill./Normal Community H.S.) went 2-for-4 with a triple.
While Saturday’s decisions came against SLIAC foes, the results will not count in the SLIAC standings. Eureka will open SLIAC play this Wednesday with a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Blackburn in Carlinville, Ill.
