Blackburn Sweeps Eureka Softball
CARLINVILLE, Ill. – Playing for the first time in a week after inclement weather postponed four home games scheduled last weekend, the Eureka College softball team dropped a pair of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference decisions to Blackburn Wednesday in Carlinville, Ill. The Beavers won the opener, 1-0, and later claimed a 7-0 victory in game two for the doubleheader sweep.
Blackburn plated the only run of the game in the second inning of game one. The Eureka offense was limited to four hits in the contest, and a triple from senior Sara Hamilton (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S./Illinois Central) was the Red Devils’ only extra-base hit of the afternoon.
The Eureka (6-22, 3-9 SLIAC) lineup struggled again in game two, collecting only four hits as a team in the 7-0 defeat. Junior Kelli Dunne (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods H.S./Illinos Central) finished the game 2-for-3.
The Red Devils will continue their SLIAC road trip this Saturday with a noon doubleheader at Spalding in Louisville, Ky.
