Kelli Dunne Earns SLIAC Softball Honor
CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – Eureka College junior second baseman Kelli Dunne (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods H.S./Illinois Central) has been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball Hitter of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Dunne hit at a .579 clip last week with two home runs and nine runs batted in.
Dunne was a force from the cleanup spot in the Eureka lineup, going 11-for-19 in six starts at second base. In addition to her home run and RBI totals, she smashed four doubles, scored five runs and drew three walks. Her slugging percentage of 1.105 and on-base percentage of .636 easily led the Red Devils during the week. She hit home runs against North Park and Westminster and put together four multi-hit games, including a 4-for-4 showing with three doubles in the nightcap of Sunday’s doubleheader against Monmouth.
Dunne’s selection, the first of her career, marks the second week in a row a Eureka softball player has been named SLIAC Hitter of the Week. Senior shortstop Sara Hamilton (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S./Illinois Central) earned the award last week.
Eureka will play six more contests this week, beginning with a 2 p.m. non-conference doubleheader against Knox on Wednesday in Eureka. The Red Devils will host a SLIAC doubleheader against Webster on Saturday at 1 p.m. and travel to Beloit on Sunday for a noon doubleheader.
