Sara Hamilton Named SLIAC Hitter of the Week
CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – Eureka College senior center fielder Sara Hamilton (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S./Illinois Central) has been selected as the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office late Monday night. Hamilton hit .560 with two home runs and 14 RBI in Eureka’s season-opening trip to the National Collegiate Sports Invitational in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. last week.
Hamilton went 14-for-25 for the week, and her grand slam was the highlight of Eureka’s 14-3 rout of Suffolk (Mass.) last Wednesday at Central Park. She added a pair of doubles in her 4-for-4 effort against the Rams that also included a career-high seven RBI. She finished the week with four multi-hit games and also collected four hits in Eureka’s 15-6 triumph over Philadelphia Biblical on Thursday.
Additionally, Hamilton coaxed four walks for a .621 on-base percentage and struck out only twice in 29 plate appearances during the trip. The Hitter of the Week award is the first of Hamilton’s career and the first for a Eureka softball player since Jill Doty earned the honor on April 26, 2010.
Hamilton and the Red Devils will continue non-conference action Wednesday in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at North Park in Chicago, Ill.
