Softball Sweeps Principia, Stays Unbeaten in SLIAC
ELSAH, Ill. – The Eureka College softball team extended its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win streak to four games on Saturday, sweeping Principia in a doubleheader in Elsah, Ill. Eureka won game one, 5-1, before winning game two, 11-3.
Junior pitcher Sarah Jesse (Mackinaw, Ill./Bloomington H.S.) earned her second consecutive victory in the opener to improve to 2-0 in league play. Freshman Caty Eeten (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S./Illinois Central) earned the victory in game two.
Eeten and junior outfielder Sara Hamilton (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S./Illinois Central) smashed home runs during the day for the visitors, while Lauren Kao (Normal, Ill./Normal Community H.S.) and Amanda Murphy (Manteno, Ill./Manteno H.S.) each recorded three hits in the nightcap.
The sweep improves the Red Devils to 4-0 in league play, Eureka’s best SLIAC start in school history. Eureka is also 6-6 overall on the season, the first time the Red Devils’ record has been .500 or better since Eureka was 15-15 on April 26, 2008.
