Eureka Gets Strong Showing at Augustana Invite
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Eureka College junior Natalie Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) turned in a 10th place finish in the B-finals of the 100 yard fly, leading the Red Devils at the Augustana Swimming & Diving Invitational hosted by Carver Pool in Rock Island, Ill.
Wetterauer was one of two Red Devils to qualify for the finals of an event, finishing the final with a time of 1:13.56. Natalie also turned in a strong showing in the 50 yard freestyle preliminaries with a 15th place finish in 28.54 seconds.
Alyssa Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) qualified for the B-finals of the 100 yard breaststoke, finishing 11th with a time of 3:01.83. Alyssa also participated in the 100 yard breaststroke preliminaries with a time of 1:25.14 for 15th place.
Junior Aaron Phelan (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) turned in the best finish for the men’s team with a time of 1:16.72 for a 13th place showing in the 100 yard breaststroke preliminaries. Junior Clint Gossmeyer (Tremont, Ill./Tremont H.S.) also finished in the top-20 of the 100 yard breaststroke preliminaries in 1:22.06 for 19th place.
Phelan was the top EC performer in two others event preliminaries, finishing 30th in the 50 yard freestyle (27.93 seconds) and 38th in the 100 yard freestyle (1:01.45).
Eureka will take a break from competition until Jan. 23, 2010 when the Red Devils host the Eureka College Sprint Meet at the Reagan Center.
