Red Devils record five top 5s in home Sprint meet
Results
The Red Devil swim team hosted the annual Eureka College Sprint Meet as a total of six men's and women's squads dove into Reagan Pool Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils came out in fifth place on both sides as well as the in the combined team scores.
Swimming in her final home meet, senior Kelsey Hale accounted for one of Eureka's two third place finishes on the day in the women's 100 yard butterfly. Hale was also a part of a strong showing by EC in the 50 butterfly as she took fourth, while teammate Natalie Wetterauer was third out of 16 competitors in the race. She later recorded a sixth place result out of 20 swimmers in the 100 individual medley.
Alyssa Wetterauer won her heat to take seventh overall out of 16 in the 100 yard breaststroke. Meanwhile, Emma Benjamin was eighth out of 18 in the 50 yard version of the same discipline.
The men's 50 yard breaststroke was also favorable for Eureka as Aaron Phelan touched the wall in fourth place out of nine. Patrick Howard was one of 12 entered in the 50 yard backstroke, and came home a solid fifth. Blair Steffens won his heat in the 50 freestyle, resulting in a seventh place finish out of 16.
There were three mixed relay races, with Eureka taking fourth place each time. The unique events featured relay teams consisting of two male and two female swimmers.
The Red Devils have only two more meets this season. This week, they will compete at the Monmouth College Invitational Saturday, January 31, starting at 1:00 pm.
