Red devil swimmers open season at monmouth invite
Results
The Eureka College swimmers began their season Saturday competing with nine other school at the Monmouth Invitational. Sophomore Natalie Wetterauer had a promising start to the year, posting three top tens against deep fields and beating two of her personal bests from a season ago.
Wetterauer finished in eighth place out of 27 competitors in the women's 100 freestyle with a time of 1:01, which beat all three of her efforts in the same event last season. She backed that up by taking eighth out of 30 swimmers in the 50 freestyle and seventh out of 15 with a personal best time in the 100 butterfly.
Kelsey Hale touched the wall in ninth place just after her teammate in the 100 fly. She, along with Wetterauer, Emma Benjamin and Elisa Peters posted a quicker time in the 200 medley relay than EC had all last season.
In the men's races, Aaron Phelan recorded personal low times in the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle, while Blair Steffens had Eureka's best finish in the freestyle sprints, taking 21st out of 36 in the 50 free and 25th out of 41 in the 100 free.
The Red Devils will be back in action Saturday, November 22 at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational in Bloomington.
