Newcomers lead Eureka's improvements at 2nd meet
Results
Newcomers accounted for five of Eureka's seven season-best times at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational swimming meet Saturday.
First-year members of the team, Patrick Howard (Peoria, Ill.) and Elisa Peters (Peoria, Ill.) each lowered the best times in two events. For Howard, they came in the men's 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Peters set them in the women's 50 and 100 freestyle.
Emma Benjamin (Peoria, Ill.), another newcomer, lowered her best time by over one second in the women's 100 free. Meanwhile, senior Kelsey Hale (Hood River, Ore.) recorded Eureka's best finish on the day, taking 11th place in the women's 100 butterfly. She also carded a pair of 13th place scores in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke.
Back on the men's side, Blair Steffens (Pontiac, Ill.) placed 21st out of a 32 swimmer field in the 50 freestyle, while Randy Dunn (Morton, Ill.) recorded his best times this year in the 50 free and 100 backstroke.
The Red Devils' next event will be the Augustana Invitational. It is a two-day event beginning Friday, December 5 at 6:00 pm and continuing on the following Saturday in Rock Island.
