Eureka Opens Swim Season at Monmouth Invite
MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Eureka College swim team opened its 2009-10 season on Saturday, participating in the Monmouth Invitational. Senior Alyssa Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) turned in a fifth place finish in 100 yard breaststroke to lead the Red Devils.
Wetterauer’s time of 1:24.95 landed her in the top five of the race, Eureka’s highest finish during the meet. She turned in another top-ten finish with a 10th place showing in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:03.61. Wetterauer was 12th in the 50 yard freestyle in 29.10 seconds.
On the men’s side, junior Clint Gossmeyer (Tremont, Ill./Tremont H.S.) turned in a time of 1:30.59 for an 11th place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke. He also competed in the 50 yard freestyle, placing 15th in 27.80 seconds. Senior Gordon Barkley (Peoria Heights, Ill./Peoria Heights H.S.) finished 16th in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:03.99, his only race of the day.
The Red Devils will return to competition on Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational in Bloomington, Ill. The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
