Final Results

MONMOUTH, Ill. – Eureka College sophomore Cody Leach (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac H.S.) won the men’s 1-meter diving event and sophomore newcomer Lauren Schwanke (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) delivered a top-15 finish in the women’s 100-yard freestyle, leading the Eureka College swim team at the Monmouth Invitational, Saturday afternoon at Pepper Natatorium in Monmouth, Ill.

Leach scored 223.80 points and 157.65 points on a pair of dives in the finals of 1-meter diving to win the event.  The Eureka men also received a solid performance from sophomore Zach Ahrends (Graymont, Ill./Pontiac H.S.), who provided Eureka’s top finish in the 50-yard freestyle (26.20 seconds, 20th place) and the 100-yard freestyle (58.86 seconds, 18th place).

Schwanke, who is in her first season of collegiate swimming after competing as member of the Eureka women’s basketball team as a freshman in 2010-11, finished in the top half in a pair of races on Saturday.  She finished 16th out of 33 swimmers in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 28.52 seconds, while her 100-yard freestyle time of 1:02.75 was good enough for 13th place among 34 swimmers that finished the race.

Junior Sara Dvorsky (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) and sophomores Heather Kentzel (Mackinaw, Ill./Peoria Christian H.S.) and Devin Fredreis (Elmhurst, Ill./York H.S.) also competed in races for the Red Devils.

Lake Forest swept the men’s and women’s team titles at the event that included schools from NCAA Division III and the USCAA.

Eureka will be back in the pool in a week, traveling to Bloomington, Ill. for the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on Nov. 19 beginning at 1 p.m.
