Leach, Wetterauer Win Dual Races at Knox
GALESBURG, Ill. – Eureka College freshman Cody Leach (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac H.S.) claimed a victory in the 200-yard freestyle and senior Natalie Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) won the 100-yard butterfly, leading the Red Devils in a dual meet against Knox at Lay Natatorium in Galesburg, Ill., Saturday afternoon. The Prairie Fire won the women’s dual, 69-18, and also claimed the men’s dual, 63-22.
Leach swam the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:11.50, edging Knox’s Alex Jandernoa by less than a second to win the event. Leach also recorded runner-up finishes in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke.
On the women’s side, Wetterauer won the 100-yard butterfly by more than nine full seconds over runner-up Amanda Lee of Knox. Her time of 1:09.09 narrowly missed her school-record time of 1:08.53 set at the Monmouth Invite last November.
Eureka will be back in action when it hosts the annual Eureka College Sprint Meet this Saturday at noon at the Reagan Center.
