Red Devils Begin Competition at Liberal Arts Championships

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – A third place finish in 1-meter diving from Eureka College freshman Cody Leach (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac H.S.) and a seventh place team showing in the finals of the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay highlighted the Red Devils’ first day of competition at the Liberal Arts Championships hosted by Coe in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Leach earned a score of 344.85 in the finals of 1-meter diving for a third-place showing, Eureka’s best individual or team finish of the day. Ian McNair of Illinois Tech won the event with a score of 474.20.
The Eureka 200-yard freestyle relay team, comprised of Ethan Minich (Peoria, Ill./Woodruff H.S.), Graham Pogioli (Marquette Heights, Ill./Pekin H.S.), Aaron Phelan (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) and Leach provided another top-10 finish for the Red Devils with a seventh place effort in the finals of the event in 1:38.95. Lindenwood’s time of 1:25.54 was the top time in the race.
On the women’s side, senior Natalie Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) delivered the top EC performance with a 27th place finish in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries in 27.57 seconds.
The Eureka men are currently in seventh place as a team after one day with 62 points.
The Red Devils will continue competition at the Liberal Arts Championships Friday beginning at 10 a.m. at the Coe Natatorium in Cedar Rapids. The event is scheduled to conclude Saturday.
