Red Devils Win Five Races at IC Double Dual

Final Results

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Eureka College swim team combined to win five individual races, including two by freshman Cody Leach (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac H.S.), during Saturday’s double dual meet against Illinois College and Knox in Jacksonville, Ill.  Additionally, the Eureka men claimed a team victory over Knox during the event.

Leach claimed victories in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke on Saturday.  His freestyle time of 24.47 seconds edged Knox’s Jesse Sindler for the title by 0.09 seconds.  Leach’s backstroke time of 1:03.47 beat out runner-up Jeff Wickman of Knox by 0.69 seconds.  Senior Aaron Phelan (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) also earned an individual victory on Saturday, winning the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:55.65.  The Eureka men outscored Knox, 244-227.

The Eureka women were paced by a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly by senior Natalie Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) in a time of 2:23.19.  Freshman Heather Kentzel (Mackinaw, Ill./Peoria Christian H.S.) earned first place in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 3:21.44.

Eureka will now begin preparation for the Liberal Arts Championships, a three-day event that will begin Thursday, Feb. 17 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
