Swimming Wraps Season at Liberal Arts Championships
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Eureka College swim team saw its 2010-11 season come to a close Saturday afternoon at the Liberal Arts Championships hosted by Coe in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Senior Natalie Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) recorded a pair of top-15 finishes to lead the Red Devils during the final two days of competition.
Wetterauer earned a 13th place showing in the finals of the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:08.51. She also placed 10th in the finals of the 200-yard butterfly in 2:36.98.
Freshman Ethan Minich (Peoria, Ill./Woodruff H.S.) was the top EC men’s swimmer during the final two days, earning an 18th place finish in the preliminaries of the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:43.52. He also placed 19th in the 100-yard breaststroke preliminaries in 1:11.97, followed closely in that race by senior teammate Aaron Phelan (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.). Phelan was 20th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:12.23. Freshman Cody Leach (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac H.S.), who earned a third place finish in 1-meter diving on the event’s first day, placed 19th in the preliminaries of the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.52.
