Wetterauer, Phelan Lead Red Devils at Home Meet

 

EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka College junior Natalie Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) recorded a trio of top-five finishes and junior Aaron Phelan (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) placed third in the 50 yard breaststroke, leading the Red Devils at the Eureka College Sprint Meet at the Reagan Center, Saturday afternoon.

 

Wetterauer turned a third place finish in the 50 yard butterfly with a time of 31.45 seconds, narrowly missing an individual title.  Emilie Perrot of Knox won the race with a time of 29.41 seconds.  Wetterauer also finished third in the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 28.61 seconds.  Her time of 1:11.59 gave her a fourth place finish in the 100 yard butterfly.  Senior Alyssa Wetterauer (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) finished fifth in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:23.88.

 

On the men’s team, Phelan’s time of 33.97 seconds gave him third place in the 50 yard breaststroke.  Junior Clint Gossmeyer (Tremont, Ill./Tremont H.S.) was sixth in the same race in 36.70 seconds.

 

Eureka’s team of Natalie Wetterauer, Alyssa Wetterauer, Phelan and senior Gordon Barkley (Peoria Heights, Ill./Peoria Heights H.S.) finished in third place of the mixed 200 yard medley with a time of 2:12.34.

 

Knox finished with the highest combined team score with a final total of 769 points.  The Prairie Fire claimed the highest women’s score of 390, while Principia recorded the highest men’s score with 342 points.

 

Full results from Saturday's Eureka College Sprint Meet will be available Monday.

 

The Red Devils will return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 30 in a meet against Knox and Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill.
