Don Luy Invite highlighted by seconds for Downs
DECATUR, Ill. — Eureka's Kim Downs (Kewanee, Ill./HS) earned a pair of second place finishes at the Millikin University Don Luy Invitational Tuesday evening. Downs took second out of seven competitors in the javelin with a season-long toss of 94', while also taking second in the high jump. She also set season bests in the 100 meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump. She will complete her heptathlon score in her next meet.
Mary Ackerman (Morton, Ill./HS) placed ninth out of 18 runners in the women's 1500 meters with a time of 5:56.19, which missed her season best time by less than one second.
Wayne O'Harrow (Crete, Ill./Bloom Trail) posted season bests results in the men's 100 meter dash (11.60), 110 meter hurdles (17.66) and long jump (17' 9''). Meanwhile in the field events, Jordan Vignoni (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) led three Red Devil shot putters with a toss of 35' 6'' to take ninth place out of 17 entries.
The Eureka track and field squad will next compete in the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet scheduled for Friday, April 18 at 5:00 pm.
