O'Harrow sets 3 season bests, Downs finishes heptathlon at Rose-Hulman Meet
The Eureka track and field team competed at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet last weekend. Several Red Devils athletes posted vast improvements over their previous season best results.
Kim Downs (Kewanee, Ill./HS) completed her women's heptathlon score with the high jump, shot put, 200 meter dash, javelin and 800 meter run. Her final score of 2,952 points fell short of her own school record of 3081 set last year, but is just 83 points shy of the previous school record of 3035 set by Sandy Socha in 1980. Downs took third place in the high jump, tying her season best at 4-11. She set a season long triple jump at 31-3 for a fourth place finish.
Mary Ackerman (Morton, Ill./HS) trimmed almost 11 seconds off her previous career best by completing the women's 1500 meter run in 5:44.24.
Jordan Vignoni (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) and Wayne O'Harrow (Crete, Ill./Bloom Trail) highlighted the men's events for EC with season best efforts. Vignoni placed 10th out of 19 throwers in the javelin with a personal best toss of 131-4.
O'Harrow registered three season bests. He took 10th (out of 21 competitors) in the long jump (19-6.75), 11th in the triple jump (39-2.5) and 13th in the 110 hurdles (16.75).
The final meet of the Eureka track and field season is set for Friday, April 25 at the Concordia Cougar Invitational.
