Eureka's road woes continue in loss to Titans
The Eureka College women's basketball team was defeated on the road by Illinois Wesleyan University 86-50 in non-conference play Tuesday night. Illinois Wesleyan (4-0) is ranked 22nd in the latest USA Today/WBCA Division III poll. The Red Devils are now 1-3.
Junior Nicole Fisher (Canton, Ill./HS) posted 23 points, including 18 in the first half, and 11 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double to lead Eureka.
The Titans scored the first nine points of the game and later used a 12-0 run to take a 31-13 lead. The Red Devils played nearly even with IWU for the final 10 minutes of the first half, but trailed 46-25 at halftime. Eureka committed 20 turnovers in the half, attempting 23 fewer shots.
Eureka made 10-of-19 field goal attempts in the second half to shoot 47.1 percent (16-34) for the game compared to 42.9 percent (33-77) for Illinois Wesleyan, but turnovers remained a problem. Of the Titans' 86 points, 44 came off of turnovers.
