Nicole Fisher selected as SLIAC Player of the Week

December 11, 2007

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Nicole Fisher (Canton, Ill./HS) of Eureka College has been selected as the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of December 3-9. It is her first such award this year after taking the honor three times during the 2006-07 season.

The 5-10 senior forward had a pair of games of legendary proportions last week, averaging 22.5 points and 20.5 rebounds. A different sort of "Catch 22" played out December 5 as Fisher broke the 22-season-old EC school record for rebounds in a game with 22 versus Blackburn. The previous record of 20 was set by Sherry Bryan during the 1985-86 season. Fisher also tallied a game-high 26 points.

"Nicole is the heart of our team," said Eureka Head Coach Abby Hearn. "She comes ready to work everyday, whether it's practice or a game. She is a vocal leader, and also knows when to lead by example."

Fisher helped the Red Devils (1-5, 1-1 SLIAC) to their first victory of the season December 8 with her fourth consecutive double-double, recording 19 points and 19 rebounds in Eureka's 68-43 triumph over Principia College. Having already reached 1,000 points for her career on November 20, she currently ranks sixth on the school career points list with 1,065. With her efforts on the boards last week, she moved up three rungs on the career rebounding list into fourth place with 638. Fisher has played a full 40 minutes in five out of six games this year, averaging 19 points and 13.7 rebounds per contest.

Eureka's next game is scheduled for 7:00 pm, Wednesday, December 12 at Monmouth College.
