Nicole Fisher nets back-to-back SLIAC weekly honors

December 18, 2007

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced that Nicole Fisher (Canton, Ill./HS) of Eureka College has been named the SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of December 10-16. It is the second consecutive week the 5-10 senior forward has earned the honor.

Fisher amplified her brilliant season last week, accounting for 28 points, 29 rebounds and four steals in games versus Monmouth and Knox. In one game alone against Knox, she recorded 21 points and 18 rebounds for her third 20+ point scoring effort of the season and her fourth game out of the last five with at least 15 boards. Fisher helped the Red Devils erase a 27-16 halftime deficit and take the lead with 15 points and 13 rebounds in the second half of a 53-47 loss to the Prairie Fire. The game ended her consecutive complete games played streak at five, though she has missed just five minutes of action through eight games this year.

Versus the Fighting Scots, Fisher out-rebounded Monmouth's Ashley Yeast, who was the NCAA Division III rebounding champion last season with 13.7 per game, by three (11-to-8). Fisher has reached double figures for caroms in six straight contests, and is averaging a SLIAC best 13.9 per game for the year. She also ranks second in the league with a scoring average of 17.8. For her career, she now has 1,093 points and 667 rebounds, which puts her seventh and fourth respectively on the EC career lists.

The Red Devils are in the midst of a 22 day break between games. They next play at 3:00 pm, January 5 at Maryville University.
