Naab, Darnall named Academic All-SLIAC

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Eureka College juniors Shelby Naab (Beecher City, Ill./HS) and Mark Darnall
(Lake Mills, Wis./HS) were recently named to the All-Academic Team by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

A history/secondary education major, Naab was the third leading rebounder for the Red Devils women's basketball team, which ranked as the top rebounding team in the SLIAC.  She pulled down 6.4 boards per conference game to rank 10th in the league.  Her single game and career-high was 14 versus Fontbonne on February 9.  The Red Devils led the league with a +7.9 rebounding margin.

Naab scored in double figures in four SLIAC games, finishing with a 6.4 points/game average.  She had 14 points against Greenville and 12 versus Webster, scoring several clutch late baskets in both contests.  This is Naab's second year on the Academic All-Conference Team.

Darnall, who is a sports management major, was the only male to receive Academic All-Conference honors for both the fall and winter seasons after leading both the EC men's soccer and men's basketball teams in scoring.  In basketball, he averaged 13.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 25 games played this season.  Darnall was named SLIAC Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks from Nov. 19 - Dec. 2.  He tallied 30 points in the Red Devils' double overtime win at MacMurray on Jan. 16, and later posted his first double-double with 17 points and 10 assists in a victory in the season finale over Lincoln Christian.

Darnall made 48 three-pointers during the year, leading Eureka in three-point percentage (41.4).  That percentage was good for sixth best in the SLIAC for the year.  He also ranked 11th in points.  This is Darnall's third Academic All-Conference award, having received the honor for basketball last year.

To receive Academic All-Conference recognition for the winter season, recipients had to be members of their school's men's or women's basketball team and meet the following requirements: (1) Minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average, (2) At least sophomore standing and (3) Have at least one full year at current institution.
