Eureka basketball to participate in "Think Pink" initiativeEUREKA — Eureka College will be one of over 900 teams across the nation participating in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) 2008 "Think Pink" initiative this week. The Red Devils have home games on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 6:00 pm versus MacMurray College and Saturday, Feb. 16 at 3:00 pm against Westminster College.
All fans are encouraged to join the Eureka players, coaches and gameday staff in wearing pink to both games this week. Pink-clad fans will be eligible to win t-shirts and other prizes during the games.
In place of admission, donations will be accepted at the door to be contributed to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. This charitable organization is committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against cancer through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.
Kay Yow, North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, is a past president and founding member of the WBCA, and a galvanizing voice for the Association. Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and is currently battling the disease for the third time.
The "Think Pink" initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA's nation of coaches to assisting raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The week set aside for this year's initiative is February 8-17.
The EC men's team will also be in action both days. The men's game on Wednesday, Feb. 13 is scheduled for an 8:00 pm tip-off, while the start of the Saturday, Feb. 16 contest with Westminster will begin at 1:00 pm.
