Brown Earns Red Devils' Seventh SLIAC Award
CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – Eureka College senior forward Khassandrae Brown (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria H.S./Kankakee) averaged 18.5 points and 13.5 rebounds in a pair of league victories last week to earn the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week award, according to an announcement from the conference Monday night. Brown’s award is her third of the season and the seventh weekly award from the SLIAC for the Red Devils in 2011-12.
Brown opened the week with a 13-point, 8-rebound effort in Eureka’s 73-50 rout of Blackburn on Wednesday at the Reagan Center. She followed that game with one of Eureka’s top-rebounding performances in program history, collecting 19 boards to go along with 24 points in the Red Devils’ 81-65 victory over Webster Saturday in St. Louis. The 19 rebounds were the fourth-most in single-game school history and the most since Nicole Fisher pulled down 19 rebounds against Westminster on Feb. 16, 2008.
Brown added four assists, a blocked shot and a steal for the week. She shot 48 percent (11-for-23) from the field and 71 percent (15-for-21) from the foul line. Through 20 games, Brown is averaging 17.9 points and a SLIAC-best 9.1 rebounds per game. Her shooting percentage of 56.9 also leads the league and ranks 13th nationally in NCAA Division III. The single-season Eureka record for field goal percentage is 58.5, set by Allison Shelton during the 2009-10 season.
The Red Devils (17-3, 11-2 SLIAC) have won nine games in a row and have already qualified for the SLIAC Tournament for the first time since joining the league prior to the 2006-07 season. Eureka will try to make it 10 in a row on Wednesday in a 6 p.m. non-conference game against Lincoln Christian at the Reagan Center.
