Caty Eeten Named SLIAC Player of the week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Eureka College freshman guard Caty Eeten (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) has been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office late Monday night.  Eeten averaged 25.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in a pair of league games last week.

Eeten had the best game of her collegiate career last Wednesday against Blackburn at the Reagan Center, scoring a career-high 36 points on 13-for-24 shooting.  She matched a career-high with 11 rebounds for her second career double-double and added three assists, two blocked shots and a steal in Eureka’s overtime loss to the Beavers.

The 36 points were the most by any SLIAC player in a game this season and fell four points shy of matching Sherry Bryan’s 40-point effort against North Central (Ill.) during the 1985-86 season for the single-game school record.  Three days later against SLIAC regular season champion Westminster, Eeten scored 14 points and dished out four assists.

In 16 games since joining the Red Devils at semester break, Eeten has averaged 16.6 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.  While Eeten will ultimately fall short of playing the minimum number of games to qualify for the SLIAC leaderboard, her scoring average currently ranks first among league players and her assist average ranks second.

Eureka (7-16, 3-11 SLIAC) will close the 2010-11 season Tuesday night at MacMurray.
