Caty Eeten Nets Third SLIAC Player of the Week Award
CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – Eureka College sophomore guard Caty Eeten (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) has been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league announced late Tuesday night. Eeten averaged 28.0 points and shot 54 percent from the field against a pair of NCAA Division III powers at the D3Hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. last week.
Eeten scored 30 points to go along with five rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots in the Red Devils’ 63-52 triumph over Concordia (Wis.) last Tuesday. Eeten’s performance against the Falcons marked the sixth 30-point game of her career. She followed that effort with 26 points, five assists and three boards against Simpson on Thursday. Eeten went 19-for-35 from the field for the week and shot 85 percent (17-for-20) from the free throw line.
According to the latest weekly statistic report from the NCAA released on Tuesday, Eeten remains the Division III scoring leader with 29.1 points per game. She also ranks 33rd nationally with a .551 field goal percentage.
The recognition for Eeten marks the fourth time in the first five weeks of the 2011-12 season the Red Devils have received the SLIAC Player of the Week award. The Red Devils will play their first SLIAC contest in more than a month Wednesday night at Spalding. Tip-off against the Golden Eagles in Louisville, Ky. is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
