Eeten Picked For d3Hoops.com All-Region Second Team

Caty Eeten

D3Hoops.com News Release

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Eureka College sophomore guard Caty Eeten (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) has been chosen for the D3Hoops.com All-Central Region Second Team, according to an announcement from the website Monday afternoon.  Eeten, who was selected as the 2012 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year last month, finished her second collegiate basketball season with averages of 22.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.

Eeten broke or matched six program records in 2011-12, including new single-season Eureka marks with 594 points and 190 free throws made.  She broke single-game EC records with 49 points and 17 field goals made in a home victory over Knox on Nov. 17.  Less than two weeks later, she broke Eureka and SLIAC records with 20 free throws made in a league win over Greenville.  The 20-for-20 showing against the Panthers tied the single-game NCAA Division III record for consecutive free throws made.  Eeten also tied a program record with 14 assists in the Red Devils’ SLIAC victory at Blackburn on Jan. 18.

The recent award from D3Hoops.com adds to Eeten’s long list of personal achievements in 2011-12.  In addition to earning the SLIAC Player of the Year award, she was picked for the All-SLIAC First Team, the SLIAC All-Tournament Team and the D3Hoops.com Classic All-Tournament Team.  The 5-foot-10 guard was a four-time SLIAC Player of the Week and a two-time choice for the D3Hoops.com national Team of the Week.

Eeten will enter her third collegiate basketball season in 2012-13 needing 105 points to reach 1,000 points for her career.  Additionally, Eeten needs another 133 points and 45 assists to enter Eureka’s all-time top-10 list in each category.

D3Hoops.com divides NCAA Division III women’s basketball into eight regions nationwide.  Players were nominated for the D3Hoops.com All-Region Teams by sports information directors at the various schools.  There were 683 players nominated nationwide, a new high. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.   Eeten was named the 2011 D3Hoops.com All-Central Region Rookie of the Year as a freshman.

Eeten and the Red Devils finished the 2011-12 season with a 21-5 overall record and a 13-3 SLIAC mark.  Eureka’s 12-win improvement from the 2010-11 season was the largest single-season jump in program history.
