Fast Start Sends Knox Past Eureka, 79-40

Box Score

GALESBURG, Ill. – Junior forward Khassandrae Brown (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria H.S./Kankakee) scored a game-high 20 points and collected nine rebounds in her Eureka College debut, but Knox put together a double-digit advantage early in the first half on its way to a 79-40 victory over the Red Devils, Thursday night at Memorial Gym in Galesburg, Ill.

Kelly Ricketts broke a 2-2 tie with her jumper just 49 seconds into the game and the Prairie Fire would maintain the advantage for the rest of the contest.

Eureka junior forward Lisa Byard (Morton, Ill./Morton H.S.) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and added six points in her 51st consecutive start.  Freshman guard Emilee Brown (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria H.S.) scored seven points off the bench in her collegiate debut.  Sara Johnson led a group of four Knox players in double-figures with 15 points.

A total of 10 Eureka players, including all five starters, played at least 10 minutes.  All 13 healthy Red Devils played at least three minutes.

The Red Devils will open the home portion of their schedule this Saturday at 1 p.m. against the Milwaukee School of Engineering.  Eureka will host its first annual Campers Day on Saturday.  Any area youth that attended Taren Martin’s Basketball Camp last month will be admitted to the game free.
