Flanagan, Rassi Named to SLIAC Winter All-Academic Team
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Eureka College sophomore women’s basketball players Jaquie Flanagan (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) and Liz Rassi (Morton, Ill./Morton H.S.) have each been named to the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Winter All-Academic Team, the league announced late Monday night.
An elementary education major, Flanagan has started 14 times this season and is one of three Eureka players to have appeared in all 23 games. The 5-foot-9 guard currently scores 3.9 points and gathers 1.8 rebounds on average in 20.7 minutes per game. Flanagan has scored in double-figures twice this season, including a 13-point effort in Eureka’s win at Lincoln Christian on Feb. 9. She is one of only Eureka players to have appeared in all 48 games since the beginning of the 2009-10 season.
Rassi has appeared in ten games this season as a reserve in the Eureka backcourt, averaging 6.9 minutes and 1.5 points per game. She knocked down a pair of 3-point baskets en route to a career-high eight points in Eureka’s victory over Lincoln Christian on Jan. 20. Rassi is majoring in elementary education.
To qualify for the SLIAC All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore academic standing and have completed at least one full year at their current institution. First-year transfers and true freshmen are not eligible. A total of 46 student-athletes earned the honor from the league.
Eureka (8-15, 4-11 SLIAC) will close the 2010-11 season Tuesday night at MacMurray.
