Box Score

EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka College junior forward Khassandrae Brown (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria H.S./Kankakee) recorded her second straight double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, but Milwaukee School of Engineering forward Carol Cayo put together a 33-point, 13-rebound performance to lead the Raiders to a 69-55 win over the Red Devils, Saturday afternoon at the Reagan Center.

The Raiders scored 16 unanswered points to race to an early 16-2 lead just six minutes into the game before the Red Devils settled in.  A steal and a driving layup by sophomore guard Jaquie Flanagan (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) was the highlight of a 7-1 Eureka run late in the first half, but MSOE was able to stretch its lead to 14 points at halftime, 34-20.

The visitors maintained their lead before Eureka put together another run to climb back into the game.  Brown started a 12-4 surge with a pair of free throws with 12:28 left in the contest.  Freshman guard Kiley Bugaieski (Tremont, Ill./Tremont H.S.) knocked down her first career three-pointer during the run and junior guard Sara Hamilton (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S./Illinois Central) finished the stretch with a pair of free throws to bring the Red Devils within 10, 52-42, with 9:39 left in the game.

The Raiders answered the run with baskets from Shannon Larson and Cayo on their next two possessions to regain the momentum.  The lead dipped to 12 (66-54) on back-to-back free throws from Eureka freshman guard Emilee Brown (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria H.S.) with 1:21 left in regulation, but MSOE maintained its double-digit advantage for the remainder of the game.

Khassandrae Brown made her way to the foul line 16 times en route to being Eureka’s leading scorer.  Hamilton added 13 points and seven boards while Emilee Brown recorded a new career-high with 11 points off the bench.  Cayo was 13-for-17 from the field to pace the Raiders, who also received nine points and eight rebounds from Cate Scholfield.

The Red Devils will play the middle game of a three-game home stand this Tuesday at the Reagan Center against Northern Athletics Conference member Concordia (Ill.) at 5 p.m.
