MacMurray Too Much For Eureka, 86-75

Box Score

EUREKA, Ill. – MacMurray sophomore center Ashley Will recorded game-highs with 28 points and 16 rebounds, leading the Highlanders to an 86-75 win over Eureka College, Wednesday night at the Reagan Center.

Sophomore guard Kristen Garst (Peoria, Ill./Illini Bluffs H.S./Bethel) scored two of her career-high 19 points with 10:03 left in the first half to force a 19-19 tie, but MacMurray took charge over the final 10 minutes of the half to carry a 43-33 lead into intermission.

MacMurray turned a six-point lead (53-47) into a 19-point cushion with a 21-8 run midway through the second half before Eureka responded late.  The Red Devils used a 16-4 run that covered 3-minutes, 36-seconds to draw within seven points, 78-71, with 1:06 remaining.  Five different Red Devils scored during the burst, including five points from Garst.  Eureka would get within seven again after trading a pair of free throws with the Highlanders, but MacMurray was perfect on eight free throw attempts in the final 64 seconds to put the game out of reach.

Four Eureka players scored in double-figures, led by 19 points from Garst.  Junior guard Allison Shelton (Normal, Ill./Normal West H.S./Black Hawk East) scored a career-high 16 points, while sophomore forward Lisa Byard (Morton, Ill./Morton H.S.) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

The Red Devils will play the middle game of their current five-game homestand this Saturday at the Reagan Center against Fontbonne at 1 p.m.
