SLIAC Champ Westminster Dumps Eureka, 85-57
FULTON, Mo. – Eureka College junior forward Khassandrae Brown (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria H.S./Kankakee) recorded game-high of 19 points and 13 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season, but St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season champion Westminster extended its win streak to 13 games with an 85-57 victory over the Red Devils, Saturday afternoon at Westminster Gym in Fulton, Mo.
The Blue Jays (18-5, 15-0 SLIAC), who locked up their first SLIAC title in school history earlier this month, received 18 points in 21 minutes off the bench from Hannah Kloster. Westminster shot 50 percent in the first half en route to building a 43-27 halftime lead.
Eureka freshman Caty Eeten (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) chipped in with 14 points and four assists for the Red Devils (7-16, 3-12 SLIAC). Junior forward Lisa Byard (Morton, Ill./Morton H.S.) also scored in double-figures with 10 points.
With a win Tuesday at Principia, Westminster can become the 12th undefeated regular season champion in league history and the first since Maryville in 2008-09.
Eureka will close the 2010-11 season this Tuesday, making the short trip downstate to Jacksonville, Ill. for a 6 p.m. tip-off versus MacMurray. The Red Devils topped the Highlanders in the previous meeting between the two squads last month at the Reagan Center, 75-57.
