Taren Martin to Host Youth Basketball Camp
EUREKA, Ill. – First-year Eureka College women’s basketball coach Taren Martin will host the Taren Martin Boys and Girls 2010 Basketball Camp on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 8 a.m. at the Reagan Center on the campus of Eureka College. Youth players from kindergarten through eighth grade are welcome to take part in the camp.
The one-day camp is designed to help individuals improve their current basketball skills and teach the fundamentals of the game. Campers will enhance their shooting, ball handling, passing, rebounding, agilities, defense and knowledge of the game all in a fun atmosphere. Additionally, campers will play games, do station work and get one-on-one instruction from Martin along with her coaching staff and current Eureka women’s basketball players.
Registration for the camp will start Saturday, Oct. 2nd at 8 a.m. in the main lobby of the Reagan Center with camp activities beginning at 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. All campers will receive an Adidas Sack Pack, snack and an autograph session with the Eureka women’s basketball team. Walk-ins are welcome on the day of the camp.
The cost of the camp is $30 per player. Registration forms will be available in the Reagan Center lobby, local schools and online at www.eureka.edu/athletics. The deadline to register is Friday, Sept. 24.
Martin was chosen as the ninth head coach in Eureka College women’s basketball history on May 18, 2010. The Savannah, Mo. native spent the previous 10 seasons as a player and member of the coaching staff at Illinois State University in Normal, Ill. She began her four-year playing career for the Redbirds in 2000 before being named Illinois State’s first Director of Women’s Basketball Operations in the summer of 2005.
