Women's Basketball Falls to Fontbonne, 85-51

Box Score

EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka College women’s basketball team received a balanced scoring effort in Saturday’s St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game against Fontbonne, but the visiting Griffins built a large lead in the first half and eventually recorded an 85-51 win over the Red Devils, Saturday afternoon at the Reagan Center.

Chantaivia Knight (Normal, Ill./University H.S.) joined reserves Lauren Snopek (Metamora, Ill./Metamora H.S./Illinois Central) and Kristen Garst (Peoria, Ill./Illini Bluffs H.S./Bethel) with 11 points apiece to pace the Eureka offense.  Knight, who entered the contest as the SLIAC’s second-leading rebounder, grabbed nine boards to lead the Red Devils and share game-high honors with Fontbonne’s Mallory Ludwig.

Fontbonne held an 8-6 lead just four minutes into the game before the Griffins engineered a quick 12-2 run to take a 20-8 advantage with 11:32 remaining.  Garst scored on a layup with 9:05 left to shrink the Eureka deficit back to single-digits, 22-13, but the Griffins responded with another run to take a 44-21 advantage into halftime.

Calista Collier scored a game-high 20 points for the Griffins, who kept hold of their share of first place in the SLIAC with the win.  Ludwig added 16 points.  A total of 10 Fontbonne players logged at least 10 minutes during the contest.

The Red Devils will welcome SLIAC foe Blackburn to the Reagan Center this Wednesday at 6 p.m.
