Eureka's 4-game home winning streak snapped by millikin
Boxscore
EUREKA — The Eureka College women's soccer four-game home winning streak was halted Wednesday afternoon as the Red Devils fell to Millikin University 7-0.
It appeared Eureka (3-2) would make a game of it with the favored Big Blue (4-1) as the teams went into halftime following a nearly 30 minute scoring drought. Millikin enjoyed a 2-0 edge at the time, but 13 of the 15 MU shots on goal had been saved by EC goalkeeper Geanna Hiller (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South).
The Big Blue, who came in having outscored its last three opponents by a count of 17 goals to one, blew the game open during a nine minute stretch in the second half. Millikin amassed four tallies in succession to push the lead out to 6-0 with 27:20 to play.
Kate Huizinga (Downers Grove, Ill./South) and KT Zapushek (Metamora, Ill./HS) combined for all five of Eureka's shots. Hiller finished with 22 saves, good for the second highest single game total in team history.
The Red Devils are in the middle of their busiest part of the 2008 schedule with five games in nine days. They will finish a stretch of three consecutive games versus CCIW foes Saturday, Sept. 13 at Elmhurst College. The game is slated to a 3:00 pm kickoff and to be followed by the men's match at 5:00 pm.
